SHITO-KAI
Shitō-ryū (糸東流) is a form of karate that was founded in 1934 by Kenwa Mabuni (摩文仁 賢和, Mabuni Kenwa). Shitō-ryū is synthesis of the Okinawan Shuri-te and Naha-te schools of karate and today is considered one of the four main styles of the art. In March, 1939, Kenwa Mabuni officially registered the name of his Karate style, ‘Shito-ryu’ with the leading martial arts organization, the “Dai Nippon Butoku Kai”, that governed all martial arts in Japan at the time. Today, 'Shito-ryu' is popular around the world and also one of the major styles of the World Karate Federation (WKF).

THE FOUNDER OF SHITO RYU KARATE-DO

The founder, Mabuni Kenwa (14 Nov 1889 - 23 May 1952) was one of the first karateka to teach karate in mainland Japan and is credited as developing the Karate style, Shitō-ryū. Originally, he chose the name Hanko-ryu, literally" half-hard style",to imply that the style used both hard an soft technique. Finally,Mabuni chose Shito-ryu, first characters of the names Itosu and Higaonna, his two primary teachers.

Mabuni Kenei was born on February 13, 1918, in Shuri Okinawa. He is the firstborn of 3 children of Master Mabuni Kenwa. Beginning at an
early age Kenei received personal instruction from his father through
out his childhood. On Kenwa Mabuni's death (May 23, 1952), he was
succeeded to the second head of Shito-Ryu.

3rd Soke of Shito-ryu
Soke Kenyu Mabuni was born on June 4, 1951 in Nishi-ku Osaka city, as the eldest son of the second Soke of Shito ryu, Kenei Mabuni. While at the age of 3 he started learning Karate by Master Kenei at their home them in chioka, Minato-ku.
In 2004, he began formally to teach karate to junior and junior high school children at his home in Hachioji. He had produced top players of All Japan Boys and Girls Championships and high ranked players and junior high school players in many All Japan level tournaments.
He involves himself in passing down the techniques of traditional karate together with karate as a competitive sport and endeavor in nurturing young karatekas.

Shihan Wong began his karate training in SKA in 1967 at the age 25.The Association, established in 1964, was known as the Singapore Karate Association. He is responsible for the establishment of the Asia Pacific Shitoryu Karate-Do Federation (APSKP) He has been highly praised and commended by Soke Ken-Ei Mabuni and Sensei Ken Sakio, Former President of the World Shitoryu Karate-Do federation (WSKF), for his selfless commitment in the promotion of Shitoryu Karate-Do in the Asia region and also in organizing the ASKF Championships.

Shihan George Tan started training ShitoRyu Karatedo more than 50 years ago. He has been President of the Asia Pacific ShitoRyu Karatedo Federation (APSKF) for two terms, during which the organization has had more than 25 affiliated country members. His position as Vice Chairman of the Technical Committee in the World ShitoRyu Karatedo Federation (WSKF) while holding an official 8th Dan speaks to the responsibility he has. His vast experience in conducting seminars and upgrading for overseas members has been very satisfying in his life as a Karatedo practitioner.
